Luke 24:1-53

Lesson 8 – Jesus Rose from the Dead

Key verses 24:46-47 “and said to them, ‘Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem.”

1.Read vs. 1-12. Why did the women come to the tomb? (1) What did they find? (2-5) What did the angel say and remind them? (5-8) How did the disciples respond to the women’s report? (11,12)

2.Read vs. 13-35. Why were two disciples confused and in despair? (21) How did Jesus help them? (25-27) Think about the prophecies in the OT concerning his death and resurrection (Gen 3:15, Gen 22, Is 53). Why did Jesus have to die and rise? (Rom 4:25, Acts 2:36) How did they share?

3.Read vs. 36-53. How did Jesus remove doubt from the Twelve concerning his resurrection? (39-43) How did he remind them of his teaching? (44)  What is the main message of the gospel to share? (47, 1 Co 15:3-4) How could they carry on their mission? (49, Act 1:8)

4.How does Jesus’ resurrection prove concerning (1) God’s faithfulness, (2) his power over sin, death, and Satan, (3) our living hope in his kingdom (1 Pet 1:3-5).  Summarize what you believe and what you can share with others.
