REMAIN IN JESUS

John 15:1-17

Lesson 9 – Remain in Jesus

Key verse 15:5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.”

1.Read vs. 1-4.  In his metaphor, how does Jesus describe his relationship with the Father and with his disciples (1, 5a)? Who are the branches that bear fruit, and those that bear no fruit? What does God do and why? (2) How are Jesus’ disciples cleaned? (3) What does Jesus encourage them to do?

2.Read vs. 5-8. Why is it so vital to remain in Jesus to be fruitful? What happens to those who do not remain in him? What privileges are given to his disciples who remain in him? (7,8)

3.Read 9-15. How did Jesus demonstrate his greatest love for his disciples? (13)  How can they remain in his love (relationship)? (12, 14:15)  What will be the outcome? (11,14,15)

4.Read vs. 16-17. What is Jesus’ purpose in choosing his disciples (16)? What does it mean to go and bear fruit that lasts? What privilege follows those who love each other? What can you do practically to remain in Jesus, connected to him, to be fruitful?
