FATHER, FORGIVE THEM

Luke 23:1-56

Lesson 7 – Father, Forgive Them

Key verse 23:34a And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.”

1.Read vs. 1-25. How was Jesus treated and falsely accused during trials? (22:63-64, 23:2) Why did Jesus not defend his innocence? (9, Is 53:7) What did he claim about himself? (Lk 22:67-70, 23:3) What does it mean that Jesus is the Christ and King? (Ps 110:1, Dan 7:13-14) How did Pilate surrender Jesus to be killed?

2.Read vs. 26-43. Why was Jesus helped to carry the cross? (26) What did Jesus warn them? (28-36) What did Jesus pray for on the cross? (34) On what basis? (Heb 9:28) Why did he not save himself? How did one of the criminals gain entrance to paradise?

3.Read vs. 44-56. In the midst of darkness, how did God answer his prayer? (45) What does a torn curtain symbolize? (Heb 10:19-20) How did the centurion testify? (47)  How did Joseph fulfill the prophecy of Jesus’ burial? (Is 53:9)

4.Meditate on what Jesus went through to save us. (a) Are we saved because of our righteousness? (Titus 3:5) (b) What could be our response to his love? (1 Thes 5:16-18, Eph 2:10) (c) How did his death restore paradise for us? (Rev 22:14)
