John 4:1-29

Lesson 5 – Jesus Invites Us to the Living Water

Key verse 4:14 “but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

1.Read verses 1-9. When and where did this event take place? (1-6) Whom did Jesus meet and what kind of woman was she? (7,18) What obstacles stood between Jesus and this woman? (9)

2.Read verses 10-15. What kind of water did Jesus want to give her? (10,14) Compare the living water with the water she had been drinking. (13,14) What is this living water? (Jn7:37-39)

3.Read verses 16-19. Why did Jesus ask her to call her husband and how did she respond? (16,17) What was her true thirst? What does it mean that she recognized him as a prophet? (17-19)

4.Read verses 20-26. What did she ask Jesus and why? What did Jesus reveal to her about God, worship, salvation, and himself?

5.Read verses 27-30. How was this woman changed when she believed Jesus is the Messiah? (28-30) Who is Jesus to you? What is his promise to you in this passage?
