John 3:1-21

Lesson 4 – For God So Loved the World

Key verse 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”

1.Read verses 1-2. Who is Nicodemus and why did he come to Jesus at night? (1,10,19:39) What did he perceive Jesus? (2)

 

2.Read verse 3. According to Jesus’ answer, what was Nicodemus’ true need? What is the kingdom of God? What is being born again? Why is spiritual rebirth essential for entering God’s kingdom? (3,5)

 

3.Read verses 4-8. How did Jesus explain the meaning of being born again? To what did Jesus compare the work of the Spirit? (8)

 

4.Read verses 9-15. Did Nicodemus understand it (4,9,10)? Why should we accept Jesus’ testimony? (11-13) What does the incident of Moses and the bronze snake teach about believing? (14-15, Num 21:4-9) What is the connection between Jesus and the bronze snake?

 

5.Read verses 16-21. Think about the love of God who sent His only Son into the world. (16-18) What promise is given to the believers, and what is the consequence for those who do not? How are belief, being born again and entering the kingdom of God interconnected? What’s your personal response to God’s love?
