WORTHY IS THE LAMB, WHO WAS SLAIN
Revelation 4:1 – 5:14
Key verse 5:12
* The Throne in Heaven (4:1-11)
1. In which situation did John find himself on the island of Patmos? (1.9.10) What invitation did John receive, and why? (1; Gen 28:12-19; 1:19) How does John describe the one who sat on the throne, and the surroundings of the throne? What does the vision of God on the throne teach us about who God is? (2-3)
2. What is the meaning of the descriptions of the four living creatures and the 24 elders? (3-8a; Isa 6:3; Ez 1:5-25; 2:10; 3:21; Mt 19:28) With what devotion and what insight did they worship God? Why is he alone worthy of such worship? How is this vision of God’s heavenly throne a great encouragement for John and also for us?
* The Lamb, the Only Worthy who Fulfills God’s Council (5:1-14)
3. What does it teach us about God that he holds the sealed scroll in his right hand? (1; 1:19; 4:1) Who was going to open this sealed scroll? (2-7; Gen 49:9.10) What do the expressions “Lion of the tribe of Judah” and “Lamb, who was slain” reveal about Jesus? How was only the lamb alone worthy to open the scroll? (6:9b; Isa 53:4-6; Rom 5:8; John 16:33) What does it mean that the lamb took the scroll? (7.8a)
4. How did the four creatures and the 24 elders worship the Lamb? Why is the Lamb’s salvation work through his blood a new song? (8-10; Isa 40:31; Gal 3:13) Why and how did the thousands of thousands of angels praise the Lamb? (11-12) What attributes were assigned to the lamb and why? (13-14) How can we endure all persecutions, worship the lamb, and be true victors in this generation?
