Revelation              1:1 – 3:22

Key Verse               3:21

* I am the Alpha and the Omega (1:1-20)

  1. What is the Revelation about, and why are those who hear the words of Revelation blessed? (1-3) Whom does John address, and in what spiritual situation were the addressees? (4a.11) What does John testify about God, the Holy Spirit, and Jesus in his greeting? (4b-8) Who is God, who reveals himself to the believers then and now as the Alpha and Omega?

  1. Why was John on the island of Patmos? (9) What did he hear and see there, as he was in the Spirit? What meaning does each description of the glorious body of Jesus have for the persecuted churches? (13.16.18; Zechariah 12:10) Why did Jesus present himself as the eternally living One who has the key of Hades?  What spiritual attitude do we need for studying the book of Revelation? (19.20)

* Be faithful, even to the point of death (2:1 – 3:22)

  1. Make a summary of Jesus’ praise, rebuke and encouragement for every church and the reward for those who are victorious! How did Jesus introduce himself in each letter? (2:1-3:22) What first love were the believers in Ephesus allowed to restore, and what first things were they allowed to do? (2:4-5) What do we learn from Jesus, who encourages the Christians in afflictions to be faithful even to the point of death? (2:10)

  1. What is the significance of Jesus’ admonition: “Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches”? What is the false teaching of Balaam and the Nicolaitans about? (2:6.14.15.20) What false teachings and idol worship are also present in our time? How can we here in this generation hold on to the crown of life and be true victors like our Lord Jesus? (3:20.21)
