* The Secrets of the Kingdom of God (4:1 – 5:43)

  1. What did Jesus teach about the kingdom of God through the five parables? (4:1-9, 21-23, 24-25, 26-29, 30-32) Why did Jesus repeatedly teach through the parables? (4:9, 11-13, 20, 33-34) How can we come to know and experience the secrets of God’s kingdom? What do these parables reveal about Jesus ́ ministry?
  1. What did the disciples learn through the storm? (4:35-41) Reflect on how Jesus healed the demon-possessed man, Jairus’ daughter, and the woman suffering from bleeding. (5:1-43) Through these events, what did the disciples learn about Jesus’ identity and authority and the faith that Jesus wanted them to have? (4:40-41, 5:34, 36)

* You Give Them Something to Eat (6:1 – 8:30)

  1. What happened to Jesus in Nazareth and to John the Baptist, who called people to repentance? (6:1-6, 14-29) What do these events reveal about the spiritual condition of that generation and our own? What were the consequences of these spiritual problems? (30-34) Consider how Jesus sent out the Twelves (6-13) and how he ministered to the crowds -teaching them and feeding them together with the disciples.(30-44,8:1-10) What do these reveal about Jesus’ heart, his mission, and his vision for raising disciples? (6:34, 37, 8:2-3)
  1. Through walking on the water and confronting the Pharisees, what might Jesus try to teach his disciples? (6:45-52, 7:1-23, 8:11-21) What can we learn about Jesus’ leadership and His disciple training? Compare and contrast Jesus’ healing works.(6:53-56, 7:24-37, 8:22-26) What do these reveal about Jesus himself, his work, and the faith?(Is35:5-6) After all these, what was Peter’s confession about who Jesus is? (8:27-30) Why is recognizing and confessing Jesus as the Messiah essential for faith and discipleship?
