* The Beginning of Jesus‘ Ministry (1:1-45)

 

  1. Read 1:1-8. What do these tell about Jesus and His gospel? How did John accomplish his task? Read 1:9-15 Why did Jesus begin his ministry with baptism and temptation? What was his message? What does the beginning of the gospel reveal about Jesus (identity & ministry) and why is that important?

 

  1. Read 1:16-45. What did Jesus do to lay the foundation of His ministry? What does Jesus’ public ministry and the people’s response reveal about the spiritual reality then and now? What vision did he have when he called His disciples? From Jesus and the disciples, what can we learn about being disciples and making disciples?

 

* Jesus Appoints the Apostles (2:1 – 3:35)

 

  1. Read 2:1-17. What and how did Jesus reveal about His identity, His authority, and His mission? Read 2:18-3:6. What did Jesus teach about the nature of the gospel and how one should receive it? However, how did the religious leaders respond to the gospel of Jesus? As followers of Christ, what should we understand  about Him and the gospel?

 

  1. Read 3:7-19. How did Jesus respond to the growing followers? What was Jesus’ purpose and vision in calling and appointing the Twelve among disciples? (14-19; 1:17; 2:14,17)  Read 3:20-35. What hindered the work of God and how did Jesus deal with it? What can we learn about true discipleship and spiritual leadership?
