Lesson 4 Disciples’ Storm Training

Disciples’ Storm Training

Mark 4:35-5:20

Key Verse Mark 4:40

He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no Faith?”

I.                    In the storm (4:35-41)

1.           Briefly review what Jesus and his disciples had been doing? (33-34) When evening came, what did Jesus tell his disciples to do? (35-36) Why might they need to do this? In what way is our life like a voyage? (Ps 107:23-30)

2.           During the voyage, what unexpected problem arose? (37) What efforts might they make to overcome the crisis? What do the disciples’ actions and words reveal about their fear and their relationship with Jesus in the middle of the storm? (38)

3.           How did Jesus calm the storm?(39) What does this reveal about Jesus’  identity, authority and the power of His word? (Mk1:25, 2:5, Col1:15-16)

4.           What did Jesus rebuke about? (40) What does the word “still” imply? What had Jesus wanted from his disciples?  During our voyage of life to be Disciples of Jesus, what might we overcome? (2Cor1:3-11, Ac27:9-37)

5.           How did the disciples respond? (41) What new discovery did they make about Jesus? How does Jesus want us to respond to our storm of life? Think about Jesus who drove them into the storm. What might Jesus aspire for the disciples?
