Lesson 1
Disciples Called
Mark 1:16-20
Key Verse 1:17
“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.”
Calling
Read Verses 16-20. As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, who did he see? What were they doing? (16,19) How did Jesus get people to follow him? (17,19) What does “Come, follow me…” mean? What promise did Jesus make?
In Jesus’ call, what can we learn about Jesus’ hope and vision for the disciples? (Lk5:10, Mt 28:19-20, Mk3:14-15)
Think about “Life to fish for men” and “Life to catch fish.” What significance and value does Jesus’ call impart to an individual?
II. Following
How did Simon, Andrew, John, and James respond to Jesus’ call? (18, 20) What sacrifice and decision should they make to follow Jesus? What can we learn from their response?
Think about Jesus’ calling that restores the meaning/purpose of one’s life and leads him to live “a New Life.” (Ro6:4,13, 2Cor 5:17)
What might bring about such a turning point in your lives?
One Word: Come, follow me.
